Thomas Tusser

Thomas Tusser (born October 19, 1524 in Rivenhall , Essex , † May 3, 1580 in London ) was an English poet and author of agricultural works.

Life

Tusser came from a noble family from Essex and was educated at Eton and King's College , Cambridge . He came to Lord William Paget's court as a musician and singer . After ten years he withdrew and settled in Suffolk as a farmer , where he wrote his book "A Hundreth Good Points of Husbandrie" (1557). It was later expanded to "Five Hundred Good Points of Husbandrie" (1573) and reprinted many times in the following century. However, Tusser was unsuccessful as a farmer. He died in debt in a London prison.
