Thomas Völsch

Thomas Völsch (* 9. February 1958 in Hamburg , † 28. November 2017 ) was a German politician of the SPD . From 2008 to 2011 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament and from the beginning of 2012 to November 2017 he was district office manager for the Hamburg district of Harburg .

Life

Völsch attended high school in Eppendorf and then studied at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Hamburg, which he graduated with a degree in administrative management . After completing his studies, he went into the public service, first working in the district office and in the audit office of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and in 2007 switched to the authority for education and sports . From 1994 to 2004 he was the full-time managing director of the SPD parliamentary group and during this time he was released from public service.

politics

Völsch joined the SPD in 1990. From 1996 to 1998 he was chairman of the local club in Fischbek, from 2003 to 2011 chairman of the local club in Neugraben-Fischbek and since 2011 an assessor. In addition, since 2006 he was also deputy district chairman in Harburg. In February 2008, he was in the state election on the constituency Süderelbe move as a deputy in the Hamburg Parliament.

On October 7, 2010 Völsch was nominated by the district executive and the district parliamentary group of the Harburg SPD as a candidate for the office of district manager of Hamburg-Harburg, who was elected on October 26. The then black-green majority in the Harburg town hall, which had only one vote, supported incumbent Torsten Meinberg ( CDU ). In the 2011 mayor election, he achieved the best result of the direct candidates in the Süderelbe constituency, moved back into the Hamburg citizenship and was elected deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group . At the beginning of 2012, he resigned his mandate and took up his position as district manager for the Harburg district. In September 2017, Völsch was re-elected by the Harburg district assembly and in November, effective January 1, 2018, was re-elected by the Hamburg Senate for a further six years. A few days later, he asked the Senate because of cancer to withdraw his appeal and give him early retirement.

Private

Völsch was married and the marriage resulted in two sons.
