Thomas Wagner (politician, 1904)
Thomas Wagner (born December 21, 1904 in Draßburg , † September 21, 1993 in Oberwart ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and state official. Wagner was a member of the Burgenland Landtag from 1960 to 1965 and a member of the Federal Council from 1965 to 1970 .
Wagner was born as the son of the bricklayer's assistant Matthias Wagner from Draßburg and attended the public school in Sopron after primary school in Draßburg . He then moved to the Federal College for Mechanical Engineering in Wiener Neustadt and passed the Matura in 1925. In 1939 he received the engineering certificate. Wagner took on various odd jobs between 1925 and 1928, including spending nine months in Paris. In 1928 he entered the service of the Province of Burgenland and subsequently worked in Güssing , Eisenstadt and Oberwart . From 1938 to 1943 he was employed in the Styrian construction service at the Oberwart Water Management Authority, from 1943 to 1944 he served in the Wehrmacht , where he was taken prisoner of war by the British in 1944, from which he did not return until 1946. After his return, he was employed from 1946 to 1966 as head of the Oberwart building district office, and in 1970 he retired.
Wagner had been a member of the Social Democratic Party from 1931 until the party was banned in 1934. After the Second World War, he became involved in the SPÖ and worked from 1954 to 1964 as Vice Mayor of Oberwart. He also represented the SPÖ from July 27, 1960 to January 22, 1965 in the Burgenland Landtag and was then a member of the Federal Council from January 22, 1965 to June 19, 1970. Wagner held the office of Chairman of the Federal Council from January 1, 1969 to June 30, 1969.
