Thomas Freiherr von dem Knesebeck (born March 27, 1594 in Tylsen , † February 1, 1658 in Cölln (Spree) ) was a Brandenburg statesman .

Life

Origin and family

Thomas was a member of the Altmark noble family von dem Knesebeck . His parents were the Brandenburg statesman Thomas von dem Knesebeck (1559-1625) and Emerentia, née von Alvensleben . His brothers are Hempo (1595–1656) and Levin (1597–1638).

Career

Knesebeck studied in Helmstedt (1607), Frankfurt (Oder) (1608), Wittenberg (1612), Marburg (1612-1615) and again in Heidelberg (1615-1616). From 1616 to 1618 he and his brothers went on a cavalier tour to Geneva, Italy, France, England and the Netherlands. He was then from 1618 to 1651 member of the chamber judge. In 1626 he took over the position of governor and commissioner of the Altmark from his father. In 1646 he was promoted to director of the Kurmärkische Amtskammer in Cölln an der Spree and from 1646 to 1658 he was Kurbrandenburg's Privy Councilor. As Der Busy , he was accepted into the Fruitful Society in 1649 . From 1651 he was deputy court director. During his career he was sent several times on diplomatic missions to Hungary, Livonia, Stockholm and Flensburg. Knesebeck adhered to the Reformed Confession since 1613 and was buried in Tylsen on June 16, 1658.
