Thorsten Klentze (born June 15, 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German jazz musician (guitar, composition).

Live and act

Klentze already played in Hamburg clubs during his school days. There he met Bert Jansch , Hannes Wader  and Franz Josef Degenhardt . In the mid-1970s, influenced by Zbigniew Seifert , Toto Blanke , Keith Jarrett , Eberhard Weber and Charlie Mariano , his music expanded into contemporary jazz. His group Fisherman's Break with saxophonist Wolfgang Wahl toured Europe in the 1980s. In the 1990s a new trio with Marika Falk and Jost H. Hecker formed around him. He was best known for his collaboration with Charlie Mariano , who appeared as a guest soloist from 1995 to 2006 in concerts and at festivals with the Thorsten Klentze Quartet.

The long-term collaboration with Roger Jannotta  was documented in CD productions with, among others, the vibraphonist David Friedman , on which the two repeatedly presented themselves as unconventional composers. The discographer Tom Lord lists his participation in seven recording sessions between 1991 and 2006 in the field of jazz.

Klentze has lived in Munich with his wife Birgit since the 1980s, where he also works as a music teacher. His son is the actor Bela Klentze .
