Thrudvangar is a German Viking Metal band from Köthen .

style

Thrudvangar play traditional Viking Metal , which is characterized by the use of elements of Black Metal and Pagan Metal . The songs are played at a medium to fast tempo and, especially on the first albums, almost consistently contain keyboard arrangements. Since Tiwaz , which was released in 2013, Thrudvangar have completely dispensed with a keyboard and thus finally bring the guitar sound to the fore.

The texts always refer to Nordic mythology , but also to historical events as well as sagas and legends of the Vikings. The concept album Durch Blut und Eis deals exclusively with the life of Erik "the Red" Thorvaldsson . The style of singing is typically influenced by Black Metal .

Band history

Thrudvangar was founded in 1998 by Torsten and Christian in Köthen. In 2001, after several line-up changes, the name Thrudvangar (the kingdom of the Nordic god Thor ) was agreed and played several appearances. In 2002 a self-produced CD with five songs was released. In 2004 the first real album Ahnenthron was released and there followed appearances at the Ultima Ratio Festival and the Ragnarök Festival , respectively in 2005 and 2006. At the end of 2005 the band returned to the studio and in August 2006 released their second album Walhall on Einheit Produktionen . The label re-released the debut album Ahnenthron with additional bonus material at the end of 2006 . In 2007 the third album Between Asgard and Midgard followed . In 2008 the split LP (7 inches) was released with the Russian Viking metal band Nomans Land , to which Thrudvangar contributed their song Imzeichen des Hammer .

The fourth album, Through Blood and Ice , released in 2010, was the band's first concept album and deals with the life and deeds of Erik "the Red" . It includes a bonus DVD with the performance from Barther Metal Open Air 2009, an interview and the video clip for the album title Thornesthing .

In 2012 keyboardist and founding member Andreas left the band to devote himself to other projects. Thus, in 2013, Tiwaz was not only the band's fifth album, but also the first that did not use any keyboard at all. In addition, Thrudvangar moved with Tiwaz to the label Massacre Records . Shortly after the release, guitarist Kanne was replaced by Flo. In 2014, Christian - as one of the two remaining founding members - announced his departure from the band in order to devote himself to his numerous studio projects in his own Black-In-Sound studio . His position was taken over by Sebastian.
