Tibor Harsanyi

Tibor Harsanyi , also Tibor Harsányi , (born June 27, 1898 in Magyarkanizsa , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary , today Kanjiža , Serbia ; † September 19, 1954 in Paris ) was a French composer , conductor and pianist of Hungarian origin.

Life

Coming from the northern Banat , Tibor Harsanyi came to France via Austria and the Netherlands in the 1920s. After studying at the Franz Liszt Music Academy with Zoltán Kodály , he went on tour as a pianist in Europe and America. His works are partly influenced by jazz . The choreographer Martha Graham , considered the most important founder of modern dance, realized some of her solo dance pieces based on compositions by Tibor Harsanyi, for example Resurrection (1929), Unbalanced (1930) and Ecstatic Dance (1932). He was involved in an association of émigré musicians from all countries: The composers' circle of friends called École de Paris included Tibor Harsanyi, Conrad Beck , Marcel Delannoy, Pierre Octave Ferroud , Jacques Lamanjat, Nikolai Lopatnikoff , Bohuslav Martinů , Georges Migot , Marcel Mihalovici , Manuel Rosenthal , Erwin Schulhoff , Alexandre Tansman and Jean Wiener .
