history

When it opened in 1986, the Timisoara Zoo was home to 30 native animals.

A modernization program for the zoo in Timișoara was started in 2004 in partnership with the Szeged City Zoological Park . The "CarpatZoo" project by the European Regional Development Fund promoted and led in the period 2004-2007 to redesign the zoo in Timisoara according to the latest EU - standards . The first work was on the infrastructure; new avenues and paths as well as new parking lots were created, the entire zoo was equipped with surveillance cameras to observe the behavior of the animals. 16 habitats with a total of 144 animals belonging to 29 species were set up, as well as a petting zoo for children and a mini safari .

In exchange with the zoological garden from Szeged, animals were settled in the Timișoara zoo, which are native to Central and South America , Europe and also Africa and Australia .
