The Kolmården (d. I. Kohlwald) is a zoological garden and amusement park in the Swedish municipality of Norrköping . With 250 hectares and 720,000 visitors per year (as of 2015), Kolmården is Northern Europe's largest zoo. The main attractions of the park are its dolphinarium (the largest in Europe), the safari park, several roller coasters and the bird of prey show. The Asian elephants of King Carl XVI also live here . Gustaf .

Kolmården is about 30 kilometers northeast of Norrköping near the E4 .

history

Kolmården Zoo was opened in 1965 by Ulf Svensson . Four years later, the first dolphinarium in Northern Europe was added.

In 1981 a pride of lions killed a visitor in the safari park, in 1991 the Asian female elephant putschie killed the zoo keeper Robert Nilsson and on June 17, 2012 a wolf pack killed Karolina Bördin, a biologist familiar with the animals. In the past, there had been several "minor incidents".

Attractions

Safari lane

A cable car, which was renovated in 2011, runs through the zoo . The original cable car by Karl Brändle , opened in 1967, has been dismantled. The new cable car has a length of 2.64 km and is equipped with 78 cage-like latticed gondolas for eight people each. The journey time is 26.5 minutes.

The animal park also features a rainforest with tropical birds, reptiles and crocodiles, and an aquarium with coral reefs and hundreds of fish species, including ten sharks.

In 1998, the Bamses Värld (Bamses World, named after the cartoon character Bamse ) theme park opened another attraction.

On June 28, 2016, a wooden roller coaster named Wildfire was opened that was built over a cliff and has three inversions . The 110 million SEK investment was made by Rocky Mountain Construction and Alan Schilke .
