Tigran Martirossian

Tigran Martirossian ( Armenian Տիգրան Մարտիրոսյան , Tigran Martirosjan ; born June 2, 1970 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian opera singer . The bass in the vocal category Basso Cantante singing since 2005 at the Hamburg State Opera .

Life

Tigran Martirossian completed his vocal studies at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow as a student of Artur Eisen and Pavel Lisitsian . While still a student he was engaged at the Moscow New Opera in 1993 and at the Bolshoi Theater in 1996 . Since 2005 he has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Hamburg Opera . He also made guest appearances a. at the Met and at the Scala , in Vienna and in Salzburg . In 1995 he won second prize at the International Queen Sonja Music Competition in Norway, and in 1997 second prize at the “New Voices” singing competition in Gütersloh.

repertoire

Martirossian's repertoire so far includes roles in Verdi operas such as Ramphis in Aida , Philipp II in Don Carlos , Banquo in Macbeth and Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra , as well as in other classical Italian operas such as Timur in Turandot and Colline in La Bohème (Puccini). His other leading roles so far have included Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro and Mephistophélès in Gounod's Faust .

Russian roles in his repertoire include Pimen in Boris Godunow and Dossifei in Khovanshchina (Mussorgsky) and King René in the Tchaikovsky opera Jolanthe . Martirossian can also be heard on several radio recordings of Shostakovich , including Symphonies No. 13 and No. 14 , the suite based on words by Michelangelo and King Lear , the latter works with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rostropovich .

His bel canto games include a. Rodolfo in La sonnambula and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor . Martirossian can also be seen and heard in comic roles, such as Selim in Il turco in Italia , as Dulcamara in L'elisir d'amore or as Sulpice in La fille du régiment .
