Tilmann Bredenbach

Tilmann Bredenbach (* 1526 in Emmerich ; † May 6, 1587 in Cologne ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and theologian .

Life

Bredenbach was the son of Matthias Bredenbach , a Catholic humanist and principal of the school in Emmerich. There he received his first training. Probably at the University of Cologne he obtained a master’s degree in the fine arts . In 1565 he moved to the University of Ingolstadt , where he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate . There he made friends with Martin Eisengrein , with whom he was in scientific exchange and made trips to Rome .

Bredenbach first became a canon in Antwerp , moved to Bonn in 1567 and finally as such to St. Gereon in Cologne , where he turned to use the proximity to the university for his scientific work. In 1569 he was appointed chairman of the spiritual council in Bonn.

He was considered an avid advocate of the Catholic faith.
