Tim Hildebrandt

Tim Hildebrandt (born January 23, 1939 in Detroit , Michigan , † June 11, 2006 in New Brunswick , New Jersey ) was an American comic artist and book illustrator.

Life

Tim was born five minutes after his identical twin brother, Greg. Her parents are George and Germaine Hildebrandt. After they both attended and graduated from the University of Michigan , they formed the Hildebrandt brothers and published numerous pictures and drawings, most of which had fantasy and science fiction as their content. Also pinups and work for comic book publishers , e.g. B. Spider-Man , Superman , X-Men and Captain America are among their work.

In 1977 she created her most famous image, a movie poster for the first part of the Star Wars saga, Star Wars . They are known in fantasy circles for their illustrations for JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings . They also created the cover pictures for Terry Brook's first novel, The Sword of Shannara .

Outside of painting, Tim Hildebrandt produced the horror film Kosmokiller - You eat everything (English: The Deadly Spawn ), in which he also participated and in which his son Charles George played the leading role. He appeared in a total of 3 documentaries on the Lord of the Rings . He also wrote the novel Merlin And The Dragons Of Atlantis (1983) with his wife Rita . In 1992 he received the World Fantasy Award for best artist.

Tim Hildebrandt died at the age of 67 of complications from diabetes . He left a wife, Rita, and a son, Charles George.
