Timothy (Bishop)
Timotheus ( ancient Greek Τιμόθεος Timótheos ; * in Lystra near Konya in today's Turkey ; † around 97 in Ephesus ) was a collaborator of the apostle Paul .
Life
Timothy was the son of a Greek ( Acts 16.1 EU ) and the Jewess Eunike ( 2 Tim 1.5 EU ) who had come to the Christian faith . According to reports from the Acts of the Apostles and Paul's letters , he accompanied Paul on his missionary trips after he had discovered him in his hometown and taken him with him. The Acts of the Apostles also reports that Paul had the circumcision performed on Timothy ( Acts 16 : 3 EU ).
According to later tradition, Timothy became the first bishop of Ephesus and was martyred there .
The name means something like “Fear God” or “Honor God” (Greek).

- Catholic: January 26th ( Obligatory Day of Remembrance in the General Roman Calendar , shared with Titus ). The peasant rule for this day is: Timothy breaks the ice - if he doesn't have one, he makes one.

Timothy is the patron saint of those suffering from stomach problems , based on 1 Tim 5:23 EU .
