history

UT 92 Scenic Biway marker

In 1935 the state government ordered the construction of the SR-80 to connect the SR-1 from the 1920s to 1962 with the SR-74 south of Alpine at " Point of the Mountain " . Today this route consists of the US-91 at Logan and Interstate 15 with the US-89 on the same route .

An extension built in 1941 led the SR-92 east into the " Uinta National Forest " and ended in the American Fork Canyon near Highland. This replaced a piece of the old SR-146 from 1933 for the SR-74 in the mouth of the canyon. The other end of the SR-168 was built in 1933 as "Forest Road" with no center markings and named in 1935. It joined the old one, named SR-7 until 1977, from the 1920s, today's US-189 in Aspen Grove .

In 1953, the SR-80 was built independently of the SR-7 and separated from the SR-168 to the north. Because the number 80 was needed for the Interstate 80 leading from Chicago to San Francisco through Utah , the name was changed to SR-92 in 1977 as part of the " 1977 Renumbering " of Utah.

Timpanogos Highway Commuter Lanes

The "Timpanogos Highway Commuter Lanes" were built between May 2009 and October 2011 and form a 3.6-mile, elevation-free parallel route to the Timpanogos Highway in the city of Lehi with one lane in each direction of travel to guide commuters past the traffic lights without stopping. The western entrance of the commuter route is just after the junction to Interstate 15 on "N Frontage Road", the eastern entrance is between "Highland Blvd" and "N Tamarack Drive". The planned construction cost was $ 170 million.

Route

The route runs from Lehi through Highland over the American Fork Canyon , where it leads as a holiday route into the Uinta National Forest , and the stalactite cave system " Timpanogos Cave National Monument " just behind it . The further course from the canyon leads to the south, east around the " Mount Timpanogos ". After the "Sundance Ski Resort" it joins US Highway 189 in Provo Canyon .
