The US Highway 89 is a north-south route in the western United States . It begins on Interstate 40 in Flagstaff and ends on Alberta Highway 2 on the Canadian border . Before 1992, however, the highway ran to Nogales on the Mexican border.

Arizona
The highway begins in Flagstaff. It then heads north and runs near Grand Canyon National Park and in the Navajo Nation . Near the Utah border, the highway splits into US Highway 89 and US Highway 89A . Today's alternative route , which crosses the Colorado River at Lee's Ferry , was the original highway until the 1960s. The current route was built to transport workers and supplies to Glen Canyon Dam . The two highways meet again in Kanab , Utah.
Utah
The first city in Utah is Kanab. From here the highway heads north and passes Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park . Then the Highway touches Thistle , a ghost town that was destroyed by a landslide in 1983. Shortly thereafter, the highway reaches the Wasatch Front , where Utah's largest cities are located. Idaho
When Bear Lake , the highway crosses the border with Idaho. In Montpelier, the route crosses US Highway 30 . Shortly afterwards he leaves Idaho again and comes to Wyoming.
Wyoming
In Wyoming, the highway runs through the Star Valley and the Grand Canyon of the Snake River to Grand Teton National Park , where it runs into the Jackson Hole Valley . Via the John D Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway , he reaches Yellowstone National Park, which he crosses to the Montana border.
Montana
The highway crosses the border with Montana at Gardiner . The highway ends near Glacier National Park on Alberta Highway 2.
