Tina Kaiser (* 1978 ) is a German journalist and reporter .

Life

Kaiser studied economics at the University of Cologne and graduated with a diploma. At the same time, she completed training at the Cologne School of Journalism for Politics and Business. She was part of the 1998 apprenticeship class. Even during her studies, she worked as a freelance journalist, primarily for Welt am Sonntag . In April 2005 she started working as an editor for the economic division of Welt am Sonntag. After Welt am Sonntag and Welt merged , she also worked for Welt. When the financial crisis broke out , she went to London in the summer of 2008 as a business correspondent for the Welt Group and from there reported for almost five years on the banking and euro crisis , wrote many reports and portraits. In April 2013 she moved from London to New York . As a US business correspondent, she traveled across the USA, wrote about Texan oil millionaires as well as the rebirth of the metropolis Detroit and interviewed famous economists such as Alan Greenspan , Paul Romer , Dani Rodrik , Daron Acemoglu and Angus Deaton . Kaiser has been back in Berlin since May 2016. In the Investigation and Reporting of the World department, she is responsible for large reports, long-term research and portraits.

Since her return to Germany, Kaiser has primarily written on domestic political issues. In addition to political reports and portraits, she has recently dealt with climate and marine protection more frequently in her texts. Together with world reporter Marc Neller , she made her first short film about a marine protection project in Indonesia in early 2020.

Awards

Kaiser received several journalism prizes for her articles, including the Theodor Wolff Prize , the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Business Journalism (Förderpreis), the State Street Prize for Financial Journalism, the PSD Journalist Prize and the Mittelstand Nord-Ost Media Prize. In addition, she was nominated three times for the German Reporter Award, was shortlisted for the German Journalist Award several times and was shortlisted for the Egon Erwin Kisch Award / Henri Nannen Award in 2020 . In 2020 she won the Theodor Wolff Prize in the “Supra-regional report” category for her political report “Close combat” on the state election campaign in Saxony.
