Tino di Camaino (* around 1286 in Siena , † 1337 in Naples ) was an Italian sculptor and architect of the late Gothic period .

Life

Tino di Camaino was the son of the Sienese architect Camaino di Crescentino , who worked as a builder on the cathedral of Siena between 1299 and 1325 , and a student of Giovanni Pisano . He supported him in the design of the facade of the Cathedral of Siena, possibly also with the pulpit of Sant'Andrea in Pistoia . In 1311 he followed him to Pisa , where Giovanni Pisano was entrusted with the construction management for the cathedral . During this time he created the tombs for Emperor Henry VII (1315) and Bishop Orso (1323). In 1317 he created the tomb of Cardinal Petroni in the cathedral of Siena. From 1324 he worked primarily on behalf of the Anjou royal family in Naples. In addition to the execution of the royal tombs in S. Maria Donna Regina, San Lorenzo Maggiore, San Domenico Maggiore and S. Chiara (including that of Queen Maria of Hungary in 1325), he was also given urban planning tasks there. The charterhouse and the redesign of the external facilities of Castel Nuovo deserve special mention . In the Florentine Cathedral Museum there are several sculptures and fragments of the original portal decorations of the Pisan Baptistery made by Tino .
