The Tirrenia Group ( Italian : Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione - derived from the Tyrrhenian Sea ; formerly Tirrenia di Navigazione ) is the holding company of one of the largest European shipping company associations based in Naples , Italy . Tirrenia has been completely owned by the Onorato shipping company since 2015; In 2011, the former state-owned company Tirrenia di Navigazione was bought by the Compagnia italiana di navigazione group in the course of privatization .
In addition to Tirrenia itself (which also includes the Divisione Adriatica ), Caremar (Campania Regionale Marittima), Saremar (Sardegna Regionale Marittima, dissolved in 2016) and Siremar (Sicilia Regionale Marittima) belong to the company . The former subsidiary Toremar (Toscana Regionale Marittima) was taken over in 2011 by its competitor Moby Lines after a tender . In October 2018 Moby Lines became part of the Tirrenia Group.
With a fleet of ninety ships (prior to 2018), the group makes 60,000 crossings every year, covers 4 million miles, accommodates 13 million passengers on board, transports 2 million cars and ships 6,500,000 linear meters of commercial vehicles.
On the Tyrrhenian Sea, Tirrenia connects the Italian peninsula with Sardinia and Sicily , on the Adriatic the Adriatica di Navigazione connects Italy with Albania and operates local ferry services to and from the Tremiti Islands and the Istrian coast.
The Tirrenia also carries a significant number of freight units.
1936 took Tirrenia the shipping company Adria in Rijeka , including staff and fleet.
Trivia
In the 1980 film Theo Against the Rest of the World , a Tirrenia ferry is pursued for a while because a wanted truck is said to be in the belly of the ship.
