The Titarisios ( Greek Τιταρήσιος , below the confluence of the Xerias Ξεριάς also named after this, ancient Greek Τιταρήσιος Titarēsios ) is a river in the Thessalian plain in Greece . The Titarisios rises on Mount Olympus and flows first to the southwest, before turning in a large arc to the east, then through the plain of Thessaly , through the cities of Elassona and Tyrnavos . It finally unites with the Pinios , which flows into the Thermaic Gulf in the Aegean Sea at Stomio . The Titarisios is about 100 km long. Its main tributary is the Elassonitis .
It was already mentioned in Homer's Iliad :
“[…] Also tilled the fields along the lovely river Titaresio:
The one that rolls in Peneio's flood its beautiful waters,
But never interferes in Peneio's silver
whirlpool , but runs down like smooth oil on the upper wave; [...] "
