Titular diocese of Ausafa
Ausafa is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
The name of the titular bishopric goes back to a lost bishopric in the Roman city of Uzappa ( province of Byzacena or Africa proconsularis ; today northern Tunisia ). The bishopric was assigned to the ecclesiastical province of Carthage .
Ausafa is said to be a local variant of the pronunciation of the name Uzappa that can be traced back to Berber languages . The ruins of the city can now be found near the city of Maktar in the Tunisian Siliana Governorate on the Ousafa River .
