The diocese of Polokwane ( Latin Dioecesis Polokwanensis ) is in South Africa situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Polokwane .

history

The Diocese of Polokwane was established on December 22, 1910 by Pope Pius X from cession of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Transvaal as the Apostolic Prefecture of the North Transvaal . On June 13, 1939, the Apostolic Prefecture North Transvaal by Pope Pius XII. for territorial abbey collected and territorial abbey Pietersburg renamed. The Territorial Abbey of Pietersburg gave up on December 27, 1962 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Louis Trichardt .

On December 15, 1988, the Territorial Abbey of Pietersburg was raised to a diocese by Pope John Paul II and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Pretoria as a suffragan . In September 2009, the Pietersburg diocese was renamed the Polokwane diocese .
