Tjaša Stanko (born November 5, 1997 in Maribor ) is a Slovenian handball player .
Career
Stanko started playing handball at elementary school age in her hometown. She continued to do athletics . In the javelin and discus throw , she won the national championship title in the youth field. Stanko also took part in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing , where she took ninth place in the javelin throw in the final. Despite these successes, she decided to play handball.
After Stanko appeared for the women's team of RK Maribor Branik, she joined the first division club RK Zagorje in 2015 . In her first season at RK Zagorje, she won the Slovenian championship. In the summer of 2017, the backcourt player moved to league competitor RK Krim , with whom she won both the Slovenian championship and the Slovenian cup in 2018 and 2019. In the 2019/20 season she was under contract with Croatian first division club ŽRK Podravka Koprivnica . Then Stanko moved to the French first division team Metz Handball .
Tjaša Stanko initially played for the Slovenian youth and junior national team. She took part in the 2014 U-20 World Cup with the junior team. Stanko is now a member of the Slovenian national team , for which she has scored 220 goals in 53 international matches. With Slovenia, she took part in the 2016 European Championship , the 2017 World Championship and the 2019 World Championship .
