Tobias Hoffmann (philosopher)

Tobias Hoffmann (* 1967 in Hamburg ) is a German philosopher .

Life

After graduating from the Sankt-Ansgar-Schule , he studied theology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg from 1987 to 1989 and obtained a licentiate in theology in 1993 from the University of Friborg . Researcher for Servais Pinckaers surgery at the University of Friborg was he obtained the doctorate in philosophy from 1994 to 1997. He in 2002 at the University of Friborg in Ruedi Imbach after the disputation in 1999, after the publication in 2002. Researcher at Ludger Honnefelder at the University of Bonn was he was from 1999 to 2000. As a visiting scholar, he conducted research at the KU Leuven 2000, the University of California, Irvine / Loyola Marymount University 2012–2013 and the University of Macerata 2017–2018. At the Catholic University of America he has been working in the School of Philosophy since 2001 (Ordinary Professor since 2018, Associate Professor 2007–2018, Assistant Professor 2001–2007).

His areas of interest are ethics, metaphysics and medieval philosophy (13th and 14th centuries) with a focus on Thomas Aquinas and Duns Scotus .
