biography

Stechert contested his first FIS race in December 2000, the first victory followed in January 2005 in a downhill run in Wildschönau . In 2003 and 2005 he took part in the Junior World Championships. His best result was 28th place in the 2005 downhill in Bardonecchia .

Stechert competed in the first European Cup races in March 2003 and started regularly in January 2006. At first he had to struggle with many failures, and so it wasn't until January 17th, 2008 that he scored his first points as 23rd in the downhill from Crans-Montana . In the 2008/09 season he made it to the top in the downhill. In January he finished second and third in Wengen, and at the end of the season he was again third in Crans-Montana, making him third in the downhill classification.

Stechert made his debut in the World Cup on January 20, 2007 on the descent of Val-d'Isère . During the next two years he came only to a few more missions and has not yet reached the points. In the first Super-G of the 2009/10 season on November 29th in Lake Louise , Stechert achieved 21st place and won his first World Cup points. On December 16, 2009, however, the season for Stechert was over. During downhill training on the Saslong in Val Gardena , the German suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee, which is why he was unable to compete in any more races during the rest of the winter. On November 28, 2010, he made his comeback in the World Cup at the Super-G in Lake Louise. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he finished 31st in the downhill after a failure in the Super-G.

On November 24, 2012, Stechert achieved his best World Cup result with fifth place in the downhill in Lake Louise. Six days later he sustained a serious knee injury on the descent from Beaver Creek . He suffered a bruise of the fibular head and a cartilage injury in his left knee and had to pause for several weeks after an operation. On January 18, 2015, he finished seventh on the Lauberhorn run from Wengen . However, Stechert injured his knee again a few days later, which is why he was out for the rest of the 2014/15 season . At the beginning of July 2017, he retired due to persistent injury problems.
