Tobias Zellner (born September 11, 1977 in Deggendorf ) is a former German soccer player and current coach . Since 2017 he has been under contract with Bundesliga club FC Augsburg as an assistant coach.
Career
Zellner began his career at 1. FC Miltach, to which he had moved from his home club SV Bischofsmais. In 1998 he was signed by Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg , for which he also played a Bundesliga game. After trial training in the summer of 2000 at the English clubs Preston North End and Carlisle United , he joined the Upper Palatinate club SSV Jahn Regensburg in October 2000 , for which he also played in the 2nd division from until 2004. After one season each at 1. SC Feucht and FV Engers , Zellner joined the then regional league team of FK Pirmasens , where his greatest success was probably the victory in the cup game against the reigning cup winner Werder Bremen . While the FK Pirmasens had to relegate at the end of the season, Zellner stayed in the regional league by moving back to the Danube to SSV Jahn Regensburg.
The public darling's contract was not extended at the end of the 2010/11 season due to the rejuvenation of the squad. Zellner then moved to the board of the SSV Jahn after the general meeting. After only one year in Jahn's board he moved to FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga to assistant coach of Markus Weinzierl to be. He stayed for four years as assistant coach at the Fuggerstadt-based company and in 2016 joined Weinzierl's coaching team at FC Schalke 04 . Since September 2017 Zellner is again assistant coach at FC Augsburg.
