Tocai Rosso

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name Tocai Rosso is another name for the autochthonous red grape variety Grenache . Its cultivation is recommended in the province of Vicenza and approved in the provinces of Treviso and Venice (all in the Veneto region ).

In the growing area it is often reported that the variety came to Veneto in the 18th century at the time of Maria Theresa of Hungary .

The late-ripening variety is high-yielding. The red wines have little body and tannins ; therefore they usually lack the structure. They are included in the DOC wines of the Colli Berici and the Riviera Ligure di Ponente .
