action

In 2015, there is a conflict between the Eastern and Western powers, all reasonable warnings from the UN Security Council have been ignored and a devastating nuclear war breaks out .

Initially unaffected by the approaching events, everyday life in Tokyo continues. Only small investors are starting to withdraw their savings. Nana is looking forward to seeing her Paul again soon, who is on duty on a ship of the Chinese Navy and who will soon be on vacation. When he finally arrives, Nana and Paul are sure they want to marry. After their father gives his consent, they make further plans for the future without knowing what to expect. The news is so confusing that none of the civilians can get an idea of the real situation.

The Chinese army is doing all it can to counteract the imminent threat. Your own nuclear missiles are damaged and the explosive mechanism is almost triggered. But in an air strike, nuclear missiles are used without warning, which inevitably triggers a counterstrike. Now the media are also reporting on the threat and chaos is breaking out among the population in Tokyo. Everyone tries to leave the city, only a few stay. Including Nana's family, who cannot imagine being safer anywhere else. They sit together almost unconcerned until Nana discusses the approaching end of the world.

A short time later, Tokyo hits a nuclear missile from the USA. The inferno breaks out and destroys people, houses and all life in the country. Paul Bendson, who had to return to his ship before the disaster, survived for the time being. But he is sure that the radioactive contamination will also cost his life. Only three spaceships that were sent into space before the nuclear strike are likely to survive. You should look for new living space for humanity - only there is no more humanity ...

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote: "A technically amateurish utopian film, which despite its gross simplification is not entirely uninteresting."

For cinema.de it's just a “classic trick by the 'Godzilla' forge Toho. Big 'fear cinema' from the Cold War era. "

The sciencefictionlexikon.de also finds the “3rd World War Movie. [...] Tiring. But you can take a look. Well worth it to fast forward until the picturesque (model) Armageddon takes place at the end. Almost a shame, one would like to say cynically, that the cold war is no longer a real topic: An Emmerich remake of this film could be very impressive (and its script wouldn't be much better either).
