Todor Pavlov

Todor Dimitrov Pavlov ( Bulgarian Тодор Димитров Павлов ) (born February 14, 1890 in Štip , † May 8, 1977 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian politician and Marxist philosopher.

Life

Pavlov studied philosophy and education at Sofia University . From 1919 he belonged to the Bulgarian Communist Party . From 1924 he belonged to the central committee of the party. Because of his political activity he was in prison in 1925/1926 and from 1927 to 1929. From 1932 to 1936 he was a professor of dialectical materialism at the Institute of the Red Professorship in Moscow . He then returned to Bulgaria and got involved both scientifically and politically. From 1941 to 1943 he was imprisoned in a concentration camp.

In 1947 he became president of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences . He held the function until 1962, after which he was Honorary President of the Academy. He also belonged to several foreign academies and was an honorary member of the World Peace Council .

From 1954 to 1957 he was a candidate for the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party and from 1957 he was a member of the Central Committee again. From 1966 to 1977 he was a member of the Politburo of the Party's Central Committee.

He dealt with the Marxist-Leninist philosophy and aesthetics. Other focal points were the history and theory of literature as well as education.

He was awarded the Order of Lenin , Hero of the People's Republic of Bulgaria , Hero of Socialist Labor and the Order of Georgi Dimitrov .
