The TOGAL-Werk AG is a pharmaceutical company based in Munich . The company was founded in Munich- Bogenhausen in 1914 to manufacture and market the Togal tablet , today Togal Classic .

history

The company was founded in 1914 as Kontor Pharmacia by Gerhard F. Schmidt for the sovereign pain reliever Togal . In 1920, Togal was delivered to over 30 countries and the office became a factory. Togal-Werk SA , Lugano , Switzerland, has existed since 1925 . In 1950 the company had over 100 employees. Günther J. Schmidt took over the business from his father in 1960; he died in December 2009.

With the efasit products, the company became the market leader in foot care in 1980 . In 2008 the Togal plant got into turmoil due to the mismanagement of two former board members. After Günther J. Schmidt surrendered the majority of the shares in the Togal plant in 2009, the company was fundamentally reorganized and the site in Bogenhausen was sold. The headquarters are now at the Fünf Höfe in downtown Munich.

Products

Under the brand name Togal are painkillers as OTC drugs sold. In 2011 the product "Togal classic" was withdrawn from the market, it contained the active ingredients acetylsalicylic acid , quinine and lithium citrate . The “Togal Classic Duo” tablets offered today contain acetylsalicylic acid and paracetamol , the “Togal headache shower + vitamin C” contains acetylsalicylic acid, ascorbic acid and caffeine . The product portfolio also includes foot care products ( efasit ) and spray plasters .

building

The work is painted in a characteristic red color. The buildings are traditional in style and mostly have hipped roofs . The northeast wing of the factory in neo-baroque style - a former restaurant, built by Paul Pfann - is a listed building. The Georgi Fountain by Heinrich Düll and Georg Pezold , which is also listed, is in the courtyard . After the property in Bogenhausen was sold to Bayerische Hausbau at the end of 2009, new residential and office buildings are planned on the traditional company premises; the listed parts of the Togal plant are to be preserved. Bayerische Hausbau built a total of 52 residential units and office space on this property in 2017. The design came from Laux Architects with Nowak Landscape Architects, who submitted the winning design to a competition. Completion was planned for 2014. Today the publicly accessible, green inner courtyard with the old St. Georgi fountain from 1901 can be viewed from the outside again.
