Günther J. Schmidt

Günther J. Schmidt (born July 28, 1918 in Sauerlach , Upper Bavaria , † December 16, 2009 in Munich ) was a German entrepreneur and owner of the Togal factory .

Life

Schmidt took over the Togal plant in 1960 from his father, Gerhard F. Schmidt, who founded the company in 1914. In 2008, the Togal plant ran into difficulties due to the mismanagement of two board members, whereupon an investment company took over 75 percent of the shares, Schmidt kept only 24.9 percent. Shortly before Schmidt's death, a legal battle developed over the takeover.

Schmidt occasionally interfered in daily political events by placing advertisements in daily newspapers. In 1979 he founded the Günther J. Schmidt Foundation , which is dedicated to environmental protection, and appointed it his heir.

Schmidt was married; the childless marriage was divorced. From another connection he had a son. In the last years of his life he lived in Switzerland. Schmidt is buried in the Westfriedhof in Munich .
