Tojo is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Tojo is the central place of the canton Tojo in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Yunchará in the province of José María Avilés . The village is located at an altitude of 2630  m on the Río Honda, which flows to the Río San Juan del Oro .

Tojo is located in the southern part of the barren plateau of the Bolivian Altiplano . Due to the inland location, the climate is cool and dry and a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are usually significantly greater than the seasonal fluctuations (see Tupiza climate diagram).

The annual average temperature is 13 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 8 ° C in June / July and 16 ° C from December to February. The annual precipitation is only about 300 mm, with a strongly pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and an only weakly pronounced humidity period from December to February with 60–80 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Tojo is 137 kilometers by road south of Tarija , the capital of the department of the same name.

Tarija from the leads to the Lake Titicaca leading highway Ruta 1 to the northwest. After 50 kilometers, a smaller country road branches off to the south, which leads via Iscayachi and Yunchará to Tojo and on to the Department of Potosí .
