Tolga Kashif
Tolga Kashif (Tolga Kaşif) (* 1962 in London ) is a British composer and conductor of Cypriot-Turkish descent.
Career
Kashif studied composition at the Royal College of Music and Bristol University with Derek Bourgeois . He worked first with the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and then with the "City of London Sinfonia", the "Royal Liverpool Philharmonic" and the "Northern Sinfonia". In 1992 he became conductor of the "National Symphony Orchestra of London".
In 1999 he composed the soundtrack for the animated film "First Snow of Winter". In 2001 "The Second Star to the Left" followed. He also wrote the soundtrack for the television production "Where Your Heart Beats".
From 2000 he worked with Steven Price on various advertising campaigns, including for Vodafone , Nokia , Marmite and Zurich Insurance .
Queen Symphony
In 2000, Kashif began with the Queen Symphony , which premiered on November 6, 2002 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall . Members of the band Queen and Freddie Mercury's mother Jer Bulsara were there. The performance was televised across Europe. Queen Symphony was nominated for "Album of the Year 2003" at the Classical BRIT Awards .
The Genesis Suite
On October 11, 2010, Kashif conducted the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Center in London for the world premiere of his new composition The Genesis Suite . The music is inspired by Genesis . The pieces used there ( 1. Land Of Confusion / Tonight, Tonight, Tonight, 2. Ripples, 3. Mad Man Moon, 4. Follow You Follow Me, 5. Fading Lights, 6. Entangled, 7. Undertow / Blood On The Rooftops ) were not only rewritten for orchestra, but also newly composed and only contain traces of the originals. The work is more based on the Genesis Suite by Nathaniel Shilkret from 1945.
