Toltrazuril is a drug from the group of triazine derivatives that is used against protozoal infections ( coccidiosis , toxoplasmosis , sarcocystosis ) in veterinary medicine in both mammals and birds .
Toltrazuril is effective against all coccidia (including Toxoplasma gondii and Sarcocystis ) studied to date . It inhibits the respiratory chain and the pyrimidine synthesis in the parasites and thus the development of the first and second generation of schizonts . It is not effective against free sporozoites and merozoites . The active ingredient does not prevent the animal from developing an immunity to coccidia.
The active ingredient must not be used in lactating cows , chickens whose eggs are intended for human consumption, and pregnant rabbits . When hedgehog oral administration can mucosa cause irritation.
