Tom Fleming (marathon runner)

Tom Fleming (born July 23, 1951 in Bloomfield , New Jersey , † April 19, 2017 in Verona , New Jersey) was an American marathon runner .

Life

Tom Fleming finished second in the 1973 Boston Marathon and won the New York City Marathon . In 1974 he repeated his second place in Boston. In 1975 he was third in Boston and won again in New York City . In the following year he was fifth in the US elimination competition for the Olympic Games in Montreal , won the Route du Vin and was sixth in the New York City Marathon , which was held for the first time as a city run. In 1977 he was sixth in Boston, twelfth in New York City, fourth in the Fukuoka Marathon and US champion in the 30 km road run . 1978 followed a tenth place in Boston victory in the Cleveland Marathon , and in 1979 he was fourth in Boston and sixth in the Pan American Games in San Juan .

From 1991 to 1997 he was national coach for the US Athletics Federation in the field of long-distance running . Most recently, he worked as an athletics trainer at the Montclair Kimberley Academy.
