Tom Leahy

Thomas Martin Leahy (born November 7, 1957 in Cork ) is an Irish bocce player and former athlete .

Leahy, who has Infantile Cerebral Palsy , first competed in the 1984 Paralympic Games . He won a gold medal in the shot put and a silver medal in club throwing . At the next games in 1988 in Seoul Leahy won bronze in club throwing and silver in the shot put. In 1992 he won bronze in the mixed team C1-C2 team competition in boccia . 1996 in Atlanta followed a silver medal in the mixed individual C2 of the boccia competition. At the Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000 Leahy was able to win his second gold medal, this time in the discus throw. In 2004 in Athens , 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London , he was unable to build on these successes.

After a hip injury a few years ago, Leahy could no longer be active in athletics and now concentrated on bocce.

In addition to his sporting career, Leahy works as a painter. Among other things, he illustrates children's books with landscapes and has already held an exhibition of his works.
