Thomas Allan "Tom" Reid (born June 24, 1946 in Fort Erie , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who in the course of his active career between 1964 and 1978, among other things, 743 games for the Chicago Black Hawks and Minnesota North Stars in the National Hockey League on the position of defender .
Career
Reid spent his junior years between 1964 and 1967 with the St. Catharines Black Hawks in the Ontario Hockey Association . Over the period of three years, the defender completed 162 games for the Black Hawks and scored 62 points scorer . At the end of his senior year, which was personally his most successful, he was elected to the OHA's First All-Star Team. He also made his professional debut at the end of the 1966/67 season with the St. Louis Braves from the Central Professional Hockey League .
Due to the expansion of the National Hockey League for the 1967/68 season with an expansion from six to twelve teams, Reid received a place in the roster of the Chicago Black Hawks at the beginning of the season . For the Black Hawks he completed a year and a half game until February 1969, before he was transferred to the Minnesota North Stars together with Bill Orban . In return, the Chicago Black Hawks secured the services of André Boudrias and Mike McMahon junior .
The 22-year-old Canadian finally found a sporting home with the Minnesota North Stars. He stayed with the North Stars for the remainder of the current and nine following seasons and was one of the first identifying figures of the still young franchise in the course of the 1970s. In the second half of the 1970s, however, the defensive player developed skin problems that severely hampered him both in the game and in everyday life and finally forced him to retire from active sport during the 1977/78 season . As a result, the team doctors discovered that Reid had developed an allergy to the materials used in his playing clothes.
After retiring, Reid worked for twelve years as a commentator on the game broadcasts for the Minnesota North Stars. After the North Stars moved to Dallas, he filled this post with the University of Minnesota ice hockey team . Since 2000 he has been in charge of the radio broadcasts for the Minnesota Wild .
