Tom Stonier
Tom "Ted" Stonier (born April 29, 1927 in Hamburg ; † June 15, 1999 ) was a German biologist and information scientist .
Life
After his family in 1939 before the Nazis from Germany to the United States was forced to flee, Tom Stonier studied at the New Yorker Drew University biology and received his Ph.D. 1955 at Yale . He then worked as a research assistant at Rockefeller University and in 1962 was accepted into the Faculty of Biology at Manhattan College , New York .
His first book, Nuclear Disaster , looked at the potential impact on biology and environment, when a 20- megaton (TNT equivalent) - hydrogen bomb on Manhattan 'd dropped. The book received wide attention and gave Stonier a reputation as a peace researcher. In 1973 he went to Bradford University in Great Britain and founded the School of Peace Studies there . In 1975 he received a Chair in Science and Society at Bradford . In the following years he specialized in the interaction of science, technology and society.
