Tomasz Piotr Poręba (born March 31, 1973 in Grybów ) is a Polish politician of the Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) and member of the European Parliament in the 7th and 8th electoral terms (since 2009).

education

Tomasz Poręba studied history and political science from 1995 to 2000 at the Kraków University of Education . During his studies he was active as a football player with Kabel Kraków, Karpaty Siepraw and Górnik Wieliczka. After he had to give up his professional career due to an injury, he worked from 1998 to 2000 to further finance his studies as a sports journalist at Gazeta Krakowska. He then completed a two-year European postgraduate course at Maastricht University and Warsaw University .

Professional background

After studying in Krakow, Poręba began an internship at the Prime Minister's Office in Warsaw in 2000 , which expanded to a six-month position. One of his most important tasks was the preparation of analyzes and studies in relation to Poland's accession to the European Union . From 2001 to 2003 he worked as assistant to the president of the Institute for National Remembrance (IPN) and coordinated its secretariat there. After Poland joined the European Union and the 2004 elections to the European Parliament , Poręba began to work as an advisor to the secretariat of the Union for Europe of Nations (UEN) group in Brussels and from October 2004 was advisor to the Foreign Affairs Committees (AFET) and for regional development (REGI) in the European Parliament.

Political career

In 2003 Tomasz Poręba joined Prawo i Sprawiedliwość , where he headed the information and public relations department until 2004. During his time as an advisor to the European Parliament, he was press spokesman for Prawo i Sprawiedliwość in the European Parliament.

In the European elections in 2009 Poręba entered constituency no. 9 ( Subcarpathian Voivodeship ) on list number 1 of Prawo i Sprawiedliwość. With 85,475 (23.30%) of the valid votes cast, he achieved the most votes in the constituency and won the mandate for the 7th electoral term of the European Parliament. During the electoral term he was a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group and from 2010 a member of the group's bureau. For the political group he was a member of the Committee on Regional Development (REGI), a member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community (DAND) and Deputy Chairman of the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (DLAT).

In the European elections in 2014 , Poręba ran again for a mandate in constituency No. 9. This time he was able to improve his election result and achieved with 113,704 of the valid votes cast 28.56% and again the most votes in the constituency. As a member of the Group of European Conservatives and Reformers (ECR), he has also been a member of its executive committee since the beginning of the electoral term. For the political group he was a member of the delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (until October 2014) and of the delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (2015-2017). He is a member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of Central America (DCAM), the Delegation for relations with Belarus (D-BY) and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (DEPA) and Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Transport for the entire electoral term and tourism (TRAN).

Since 2014 he has been chairman of the conservative European think tank New Direction .

Private

Tomasz Poręba is married and has two daughters.
