The Pedagogical University of Krakow (Polish: Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny im. Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie , often abbreviated as Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny ) is the largest and oldest pedagogical university in Poland. The university is divided into seven faculties, in the areas of: humanities, linguistics, education, political science, geography and biology, mathematics, physics and technical sciences, art.
history
The university was founded in 1946 with the name "Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Pedagogiczna" (National College for Teacher Education). Originally she had trained primary school teachers, since 1949 she has also trained teachers for the middle school. In 1954 she got full university recognition and began her first master’s degree. In 1959 the doctoral license followed. In 1999 it was renamed “Akademia Pedagogiczna im. Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie ”. In 2008 it was given its current name ( Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny im. Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie ).

The university is divided into seven faculties:
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Linguistics
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Political Science
- Faculty of Geography and Biology
- Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Technical Sciences
- Faculty of Art
Teaching
The university offers 48 bachelor programs, 39 master’s programs and two 5-year courses leading to a master’s degree. Doctoral studies are possible in all faculties except for Education and Political Science.
Locations
The university is northwest of the city center. The main building and a new building are located at ul. Podchorążych 2, 30-084 Kraków . Other faculties, institutes and facilities of the university such as offices, administration and student dormitories are distributed in around a dozen buildings across the city. The Suhora astronomical observatory, which belongs to the university, is located at an altitude of 1009 m in the Gorce National Park , about 60 km southeast of Krakow.
