Tomek Tryzna

Tomek Tryzna (born March 15, 1948 in Ostroszowice , Lower Silesia ) is a Polish writer and film director . He started making amateur films when he was still at school in Świdnica and later turned it into his profession. He also wrote several scripts and novels. He currently lives in Warsaw .

His best-known work is the novel Panna Nikt (German Miss Nobody , 1999, ISBN 3-442-72500-3 ) published in 1994 . It temporarily became the best-selling book in post-communist Poland and translated into many languages.

The book describes the development of a 15-year-old girl who is between friendships with two quarreling classmates. Although the book was written before the end of communism and has autobiographical features, it was generally understood as a parable on modern Poland between the bourgeoisie and the nouveau riche.

Andrzej Wajda filmed the book in 1996 and presented the film in the 1997 Berlinale competition .

In 2002 Tryzna published another novel Idź, kochaj , which was also published in German in 2006 under the title Magician ( ISBN 3-630-87183-6 ).
