Thomas Hutchison (born September 22, 1947 in Cardenden , Fife ) is a former Scottish football player who mainly played in midfield .

career

Hutchison began his professional career in 1965 in the Scottish Second Division playing Alloa Athletic , where he succeeded at first made it into the starting line-up. In 1968 he moved to the English second division club Blackpool , with whom he made promotion to the first division in his second season in 1969/70 by winning the second division championship behind Huddersfield Town . Although the team rose directly after the 1970/71 season from bottom of the table, the Tangerines won the Anglo-Italian Cup in the same season with a 2-1 win after extra time against FC Bologna .

In 1972 Hutchison moved to the first division club Coventry City , where he was under contract for the following eight years. During this period he also made the leap to the Scottish national team , for which he made a total of 17 international appearances between 1973 and 1975 and scored one goal. The highlight of his career in the national team was his participation in the 1974 World Cup , where he came on as a joker for Kenny Dalglish in the preliminary round matches of the Bravehearts against Zaire (2: 0) and Yugoslavia (1: 1) .

After a brief stint at the Seattle Sounders , who played in the NASL , he signed with Manchester City in 1980 and reached the FA Cup final with the Citizens, which was lost 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur after a 1-1 replay .

The 1982/83 season he spent at Bulova SA in Hong Kong , with whom he won both the FA Cup and the Viceroy Cup and was runner-up in the Hong Kong First Division League , one point behind Seiko .

After a two-year stay with Burnley FC , he signed in 1985 with Swansea City , with whom he won the Welsh Cup competition on May 21, 1989 at the age of 41 with a 5-0 final victory over the Kidderminster Harriers . He left Swansea in the second half of the 1990/91 season at the age of 43 and joined the non-league club Merthyr Tydfil FC , for which he was active for three years and completed 73 league appearances . It was not until he was 46 that he ended his active career there at the end of the 1993/94 season.
