Ton du Chatinier (born January 13, 1958 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch former football player and current football coach . Most recently he looked after the professional team of FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie .

Player career

Ton du Chatinier played all his active professional career at FC Utrecht. Before that he played in youth teams of amateur teams, where he was discovered by the then FCU junior coach Han Berger . In 1977 he moved up to the professional team and made his debut in the dress of Utrecht at the age of 16. He made the final breakthrough in the 1979/80 season, when he completed 32 games in the Eredivisie. From then on, he was an important component in the team structure of the club. A persistent groin injury forced the then 29-year-old to retire in 1987. In 1980/81 he played his best season with the team and the team placed third like never before in the club's history. Four years later, du Chatinier enjoyed winning the KNVB Cup . This was also the first title in the club's history. In 1982 the team reached the final of the national cup, but failed at AZ Alkmaar .

Coaching career

After his active career, du Chatinier came to the youth department of the FCU as a coach . When Leo van Veen was dismissed as coach of the professional team in 1995 , he took over this position together with Henk Vonk in an interim solution . In the following years, the football teacher worked for amateur teams, but changed clubs regularly. In the summer of 2008 he finally came back to FC Utrecht, where he was accepted into Willem van Hanegem 's assistant coaching team. After the board separated from this, it decided in December 2008 to appoint du Chatinier as interim trainer. He was supported by the experienced Henk Vonk. The first game under his direction, on December 28, 2008, against Roda JC Kerkrade was won 3-1. Eventually, his team put down a seven-game run without loss. This earned du Chatinier confidence and he took over the post of head coach in full. After his first half year with his home club, the team finished ninth. From the 2009/10 season, Jan Wouters was at his side as a kotrainer. At the end of the season, the team reached seventh place in the table and was able to qualify in the playoffs for the Europa League participation, in which it reached the group stage. The 2010/11 league season ended the team again in ninth place and thus missed a European competition, whereupon you Chatinier and FC Utrecht terminated their contract.
