Toni Skaba

Toni Skaba (born March 27, 1932 in Gleiwitz ) was a soccer player in the GDR Oberliga , the top soccer class of the GDR soccer association . He played there for SC Turbine Erfurt . Skaba later worked as a football coach.

Athletic career

Skaba had already started playing organized football at the age of ten. After the Second World War, he grew up in Bleicherode , and initially played in the youth teams of the company sports community (BSG) activist Bleicherode . At the beginning of the 1950s, Skaba played with the first team in the third-class district league Erfurt and was district champion with her in 1953 and 1955. In 1955, at the age of 23, Skaba moved to the GDR master SC Turbine Erfurt. From 1956 he was mainly used as a central defender regularly in the league games in the league. After the 1959 season Turbine Erfurt was relegated to the GDR league , so Skaba had to play in the second division for a year. After the immediate return to the league, Skaba played three more seasons in the top division of the GDR. He completed his last league season in 1962/63. Up to the 10th matchday he was still used regularly as a pre-stopper , in the second half of the season he was only used sporadically four times as a substitute. His last league game took place on the 22nd matchday, March 17, 1963. In the 0: 2 against SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt, he played as a half-right striker. Within six seasons Skaba played 135 league games and scored six goals as a defensive player.

Before the end of his career as a soccer player, Skaba took over the training of the lower-class soccer team of the BSG Turbine Erfurt in 1963. Until 1971 he coached the 2nd team of FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt , successor to SC Turbine. Skaba then coached the district league team Motor Rudisleben for one season , and from 1973 to 1975 he coached the district league team of Glückauf Sondershausen . At the beginning of the 1975/76 season, he took over the coaching position at the second division club Kali Werra Tiefenort and worked as a mining engineer for its supporting company Kaliwerk Werra. In 1981/82 he trained a district league team again with BSG Landbau Bad Langensalza .
