Pascual Antonio Aguilar Barraza ( Tony / Toni Aguilar ; born May 17, 1919 in Villanueva / Zacatecas , † June 19, 2007 in Mexico City ), also known as El Charro de Mexico , was a Mexican singer and actor.

Aguilar first went to Los Angeles to become an opera singer. He returned to Mexico in 1945 and became one of the most popular mariachi singers in the country in the 1950s . In 1950 he got his first role in the film Un rincón cerca del cielo , already in 1956 he had a leading role in Tierra de hombres . His specialty was depicting Mexican revolutionaries. He played the title role in Emiliano Zapata (1970) and played Pancho Villa in La sangre de un valiente (1993) . He played in a total of 167 films, including The Undefeated with John Wayne. He has also worked as a scriptwriter and / or producer on many films.

As a singer, Aguilar was known for songs like Triste Recuerdo , Albur de Amor , Gabino Barrera and Puno de Tierra and sold more than 25 million records. With his wife, the singer Flor Silvestre and his sons Pepe and Antonio , he traveled through the USA and Latin America and performed charrerías , a mixture of concert and rodeo show. In 1997 he was awarded an Ariel de Oro for his services to Mexican film . In 2000 he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
