Tony Kaye (Director)
Tony Kaye (* 1952 in London , England ) is a British director , film producer , cameraman and occasional actor.
Kaye makes commercials and feature films. In 1998 he sued the production company New Line Cinema and the Directors Guild of America for $ 275 million for banning him from using the pseudonym Humpty Dumpty for his film American History X. He did not want to be brought under his real name with the film in conjunction since it with against his will by actor Edward Norton started cut version disagreed. Directors Guild argued that Kaye was violating the rules after attacking the film in full-page ads in Variety magazine . Kaye, on the other hand, saw the cut version known to him violating his rights, which in his opinion result from the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution .
In November 2002 he was commissioned to document Marlon Brando's ten-day acting workshop Lying for a Living . On the first day he appeared disguised as Osama bin Laden , on the third he left the workshop in an argument with Brando. Kaye's assistant Marty Schwartz continued the documentation; but the result was never published.
In 2006 he made a self-funded documentary about anti-abortion campaigns in the US, Lake of Fire . He directed the Red Hot Chili Peppers ' Stadium Arcadium and former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters' video What God Wants .
Kaye's second feature film Black Water Transit , made in 2007 , was shown to distributors in Cannes in 2009, but never made it to theaters because the production company went bankrupt.
