The next year he was Finnish U18 champion over 3000 meters with a time of 8: 44.25 minutes. In 2014 Raitanen became Finnish U20 indoor champion over 3000 meters and also won the title over 5000 meters in the same age group in summer. He improved his time by more than ten seconds until September.

After almost missing the 2016 season, he started his first international championships at the U23 European Championships in July 2017 . In the final he ran a time of 8: 40.69 minutes and finished in fourth place. A few months later he joined the Universiade in Taipei as a student at the Perho Culinary, Tourism and Business College in Helsinki . He set a best time of 8: 37.42 minutes and again crossed the finish line in fourth. In spring Raitanen was Finnish indoor champion in the 3000 meter run. Also in summer he was able to win this medal over 3000 meters obstacle at the national championships. In August he took part in the European Championships in Berlin, where he made it to the finals. After he set a new best time in the run-up, he was more than ten seconds behind the lead time in the final and ended up in eighth place.

In 2019 Raitanen retired at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in the run-up over 3000 meters. In June he set a new best time in the obstacle course in a competition in his home country in 8: 21.47 minutes. During this time, he met the norm for the 2020 Summer Olympics . Two months later, he won the national championships for the second time before starting the World Championships in Doha in October . There he crossed the finish line in eighth place in his forerunner and was 32nd overall. Due to the strength of the field of participants, Raitanen would not have made it into the next round even with his best time. In August he improved his best time at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco to 8: 16.57 minutes.
