Gate Seidler

Tor Seidler (* 1952 in Littleton , New Hampshire ) is an American children's books author .

Life and work

Tor Seidler grew up in South Burlington and Seattle . After graduating from high school, he studied English literature at Stanford University and graduated in 1972. From 1976 to 1978 he was employed by the New York publisher Harcourt Trade Publishers and then became a freelance writer.

According to his own account, Seidler was inspired to write when he read Thornton Wilder's The Bridge of San Luis Rey when he was ten . In 1979, when Seidler was 27 years old, his first book The Dulcimer Boy was published .

Seidler often worked with well-known illustrators and artists, such as David Hockney and Brian Selznick . His novel A Rat's Tale was filmed for the cinema in 1997 with the marionettes of the Augsburger Puppenkiste , the German title is The Story of Monty Spinnerratz , directed by Michael F. Huse . Wainscott Weasel was included in the list of "Notable Books" by the American Library Association in 1993, while Mean Margaret was nominated for the 1997 National Book Award .
