Torben Brylle

Torben Brylle (born July 7, 1948 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish diplomat and was the EU special envoy for Sudan from 2007 to 2010 and the Danish ambassador to Austria from 2010 to 2013 .

Brylle studied economics and obtained a Master of Political Science from the University of Copenhagen . He started his diplomatic career in 1978 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Danish capital. This was followed by positions as secretary at the Danish embassy in Paris as well as various activities for the foreign ministry, where he later headed the department for foreign affairs and development cooperation.

In 2001 he became Danish Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa , accredited to Swaziland , Lesotho , Namibia , Madagascar and Botswana . Six years later he became ambassador to Egypt , where he was also responsible for Sudan, when he was appointed special envoy of the EU in Sudan on April 19, 2007. In this role he is supposed to contribute to the political solution of the Darfur conflict and ensure that the government implements the agreements made, including the stationing of UN peacekeeping forces in Darfur .
