Torsten Bernhard Bohlin (born December 2, 1889 in Uppsala , † August 27, 1950 in Härnösand ) was a Swedish Lutheran theologian and bishop in the diocese of Härnösand .

Life

Bohlin, son of pastor Isak Bernhard Bohlin and his wife, studied Protestant theology at Uppsala University , where he passed his theological exam in 1912 and obtained a licentiate in 1917 . He then worked as a lecturer and was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD. In 1925 he received a professorship for systematic theology at the Åbo Akademi in Turku , Finland, but returned to Uppsala in 1929 as a professor of dogmatics and moral theology. In 1934 he was appointed bishop of Härnösand, and he took office in 1935, which he held until his death. In addition, he worked as a part-time court preacher from 1936. In addition, he was chairman of the Christian Association of Young Men in Sweden and Vice-President of the YMCA World Federation since 1946 .

Work and meaning

Bohlin was best known for his research on Sören Kierkegaard and on fundamental questions of ethics.

Honors

Bohlin was awarded an honorary theological doctorate in 1932 by the University of Jena and in 1934 by the Åbo Akademi .
