Torsten Krentz

Torsten Krentz (born May 19, 1966 in Demmin ) is a former German canoeist . In 1988 he took part in the Olympic Games for the German Democratic Republic and started playing for SC Neubrandenburg .

Life

He was nominated by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and started together with Guido Behling from SC Magdeburg in a two-person kayak over 1,000 meters. They qualified for the final run and missed a medal there with a fifth place.

At the 1989 World Championships in Plovdiv , Bulgaria , he and Guido Behling, Thomas Vaske and André Wohllebe won the bronze medal in a four-person kayak over the 1,000 meters behind the teams from Hungary and Poland. He also started in a kayak over the 1000 meters and came in second behind Zsolt Gyulai from Hungary and ahead of Karl Axel Sundqvist from Sweden.

At the 1990 World Championships , he started a kayak over 10,000 meters and won the bronze medal behind Philippe Boccara from France and Greg Barton from the United States. Bronze won again in a four-person kayak over the 1,000 meters. At this world championship he and Kay Bluhm , Torsten Gutsche , André Wohllebe in a four-person kayak.

Under the code name "Torsten Stark" he worked as an unofficial employee of the GDR State Security .
